COD remittance is the transfer of cash-on-delivery money, collected by the courier at your customer’s door, into your bank account. It does not happen instantly. The money moves on a fixed cycle, written as T+X or D+X, where T is the delivery date and X is the number of days before the amount is credited to you.
If most of your orders are COD, this cycle decides how fast you can restock, run ads and pay your bills. This guide explains how the cycle works, what early and instant COD actually cost, why payouts get delayed, and how to check that every rupee you are owed has reached you.
Key facts
What it is: The courier collects cash at delivery and pays it to you after a fixed number of days.
Why it matters: The Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP) India E-Commerce Report 2026 points to an almost 50% reliance on cash on delivery in Indian e-commerce.
How it is written: T+X or D+X. T+4 means the money is credited 4 days after the delivery date. Some platforms, including BlitzShipz, count working days.
Standard cycles vary: Many platforms pay about a week after delivery, and some take 10 working days or more.
Faster options cost extra: Early COD plans shorten the cycle for a fee, usually a percentage of the COD amount. Instant COD advances part of the money before delivery, usually at a higher fee.
Payouts can be reduced or held: On many platforms, shipping, RTO and weight discrepancy charges are adjusted against your COD collections, and payouts can be held for outstanding dues.
At BlitzShipz: COD remittance is processed daily on a T+4 cycle, which is 4 working days from the date of delivery, with no hidden charges. Every remittance is tracked in your dashboard.

COD remittance is the money a courier collects from your customer on a cash-on-delivery order, sent back to you after the parcel is delivered. “Remit” simply means to send money. You may also see it called COD settlement or COD payout. They all mean the same thing.
Here is why it exists. When a customer pays at the door, the cash goes to the delivery agent, not to you. The courier records that amount against the shipment’s AWB number (the tracking number on the shipping label), collects it from its agents and hubs, and then pays it out to sellers in batches. If you ship through a shipping platform, the courier first settles with the platform, and the platform pays you.
COD is still a big part of how India buys online. The Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP), in its India E-Commerce Report 2026, points to an almost 50% reliance on cash on delivery in Indian e-commerce. It matters most for first-time buyers and customers outside big cities. If you are still deciding how much to rely on it, read why COD still matters for Indian sellers. Once you offer COD, the remittance cycle becomes one of the most important numbers in your business.
The COD remittance cycle is the time between delivery and the day the money lands in your bank. Every order goes through the same five steps:
Order placed: The customer chooses cash on delivery at checkout.
Delivery and collection: The courier delivers the parcel and collects the payment at the door.
Courier records the cash: The delivery agent deposits the cash at the hub, and the courier matches it to the AWB number.
Courier settles with the platform: If you book through a shipping platform, the courier pays the platform for all delivered COD orders.
Payout to you: The platform credits your bank account on the next payout date, after any agreed charges.
Each handover takes time, which is why COD money does not arrive the next morning.
T+X means the money is credited X days after the delivery date. The table below assumes the parcel was delivered on a Monday and that no holiday falls in between.

Some platforms count only working days, so weekends and bank holidays push the date further. BlitzShipz counts 4 working days from the date of delivery, so an order delivered on Monday is usually paid on Friday, unless a holiday falls in between. Always check which method your platform uses.
COD remittance can take anywhere from 1–2 days on the fastest paid plans to 10 working days or more on some standard cycles. Three things decide the real number:
The cycle itself: T+2, T+4, T+7 and so on.
Calendar days or working days: A “7-day” cycle counted in working days can be closer to 9 or 10 calendar days.
How often payouts run: Some platforms pay daily, others only on fixed days of the week. If your money becomes due on a Tuesday but payouts run only on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, you wait an extra day.
At BlitzShipz, COD remittance is processed daily on a T+4 cycle, which is 4 working days from the date of delivery, with no hidden charges. You can see the remittance status of each order in your dashboard.
Early COD and instant COD are two paid ways to get your money faster. They solve the same problem in different ways.
Early COD shortens the standard cycle, often to D+2, D+3 or D+4, in return for a fee. Some platforms advertise D+1. The fee is usually a percentage of the COD amount, and the fastest plans cost the most. Some published plans in India charge under 1% of the COD amount. Some platforms also lock you into the plan for a fixed period once you switch it on.
Instant COD goes further. It advances part of the COD amount soon after the order is shipped, before it is even delivered. Because the platform is lending you money it has not collected yet, the fee is usually higher and can run to several percent. In practice this works like short-term COD financing. Before you sign up, check how the advance is recovered if the order comes back as an RTO.

Before you pay for either, work out whether the speed is worth the fee. The next two sections show how.
Some platforms advertise D+1 or D+2 COD payouts, but the fastest cycle is usually a paid plan or is limited to eligible sellers. So the fastest option and the cheapest option are rarely the same.
Instead of comparing headline speed, ask every platform these five questions:
Is the faster cycle free, or does it cost a percentage of my COD amount?
Is the cycle counted in calendar days or working days?
How often are payouts made: daily, or on fixed days of the week?
Do I have to stay on a paid plan for a fixed period?
What is deducted from my COD collections before I am paid?
A platform that pays a little later, with no fee and clear reporting, can leave you with more money each month than one that pays sooner and takes a cut. Fees and cycles change, so check each platform’s current terms before you decide.
Roughly your daily COD collections multiplied by the number of days in your cycle is always waiting to be paid. The longer your cycle, the more of your money sits with someone else. You can estimate it with one line:
Cash waiting ≈ (monthly COD collections ÷ 30) × days in your cycle
Example: you collect ₹5,00,000 a month through COD. That is about ₹16,700 a day.
|
Cycle length |
Cash always waiting |
|
10 days |
about ₹1,67,000 |
|
5 days |
about ₹83,000 |
|
2 days |
about ₹33,000 |
Now compare that with the cost of speeding up. On ₹5,00,000 of monthly COD, a fee of 0.5% costs ₹2,500 a month and a fee of 1% costs ₹5,000 a month. That is ₹30,000 to ₹60,000 a year.
Paying for speed makes sense when the freed-up cash earns you more than the fee, for example when you are regularly out of stock on a fast-selling product. If your cycle is already short and free, paying to make it a little shorter usually does not.
COD remittance is usually delayed for one of six reasons: the cycle counts working days, the courier has not reconciled the delivery yet, the delivery is disputed, charges have been deducted, the payout is on hold, or a minimum payout rule applies.
|
Reason |
What you see |
What to do |
|
Weekend or bank holiday |
Payout date slips by a day or two |
Check whether your cycle counts working days |
|
Courier has not reconciled the delivery |
Order shows “delivered” but is missing from the remittance report |
Wait until the cycle has passed, then raise it with the AWB number |
|
Delivery or payment is disputed |

Raise it quickly with the AWB and delivery proof |
|
Charges deducted |
Payout is smaller than expected, or zero |
Check the deductions report line by line |
|
Payout on hold |
Payout fails or is held |
Check your bank details, KYC status and any outstanding dues |
|
Minimum payout or wallet adjustment |
Small amounts move to the next cycle |
Read your platform’s payout terms |
Failed deliveries hurt too, because a COD order that is never delivered never becomes remittance. If an order is stuck with a failed delivery attempt, it helps to understand what an NDR means and how to act on it before the parcel turns back.
“No COD remittance received” usually means no payout was credited for that period. It does not mean your money is lost. Most often, none of your COD orders completed the cycle yet, a payment is still being reconciled, your deductions were equal to or more than your collections, or the payout is on hold because of a bank, KYC or outstanding dues issue. Check your remittance report and deductions before you raise a ticket, so you can point to the exact orders.
On many platforms, shipping-related charges are adjusted against your COD collections before the money is paid out. That is why your payout can be lower than the total cash your customers paid.
Common deductions include:
Shipping charges, if you do not pay for them separately from a prepaid wallet
COD handling charges, where your rate card includes them
RTO charges for orders that came back
Weight discrepancy charges when the courier’s measured weight is higher than yours. Learn why couriers charge extra for weight and how to dispute it
Early COD or instant COD fees, if you use them
GST on the fees above
Outstanding dues, pending invoices or penalties, where your platform’s terms allow it
RTO charges are often the biggest surprise, because you pay to ship the order both ways and collect nothing. Cutting returns is one of the fastest ways to protect your payouts, so it is worth working through these steps to reduce RTO on COD orders.
Always ask your platform for a deductions report that shows every charge against an AWB number, not just a total.
COD reconciliation means matching every delivered COD order to a line in your remittance report, using the AWB number. Do it at least once a week. Here is a simple routine:
Export your delivered COD orders for the week, with AWB numbers and order values.
Download the remittance report from your shipping platform for the same period.
Match each AWB to a remittance line. Mark every order as paid, pending or missing.
Check deductions order by order: shipping, RTO, weight and any COD fees.
Sort pending orders by age: 0–7 days, 8–14 days and 15+ days after delivery. Anything past your cycle date needs follow-up.
Raise disputes early with the AWB number and proof. Older issues are harder to fix.
Note the ticket or dispute number for each issue and track it until it is closed.
Keep your order report, remittance report and bank statement together. This makes it easy to spot a missing payment and show exactly which shipment it belongs to.
Look for a platform that shows remittance and deductions by AWB number, gives an expected payout date for each order and covers all courier partners in one view. Use this checklist when you compare options:
