What the BlitzShipz Rate Calculator Checks
The Rate Calculator sits under Tools in your BlitzShipz dashboard, alongside your rate card. It asks for the same details a courier partner needs to price a shipment, starting with the route: the origin pin code and the destination pin code, which decide the zone the shipment falls into and which courier partners can serve it. You then add the approximate weight, the mode of payment (prepaid or COD) and the declared amount of the goods, and tick the reverse (RVP) option if you are pricing a return rather than a forward shipment. Finally, enter the box dimensions in centimetres: length, breadth and height. Select Calculate, and you get rates, delivery times (TAT) and serviceability across courier partners for that route, so you can compare them before booking rather than after.
What Your Shipping Rate Is Based On
Four things shape the figure you see. The first is chargeable weight, which is the higher of the parcel's dead weight and its volumetric weight, calculated as length × breadth × height in centimetres divided by 5,000. The second is the zone, worked out from your two pin codes: within city, within region or up to 500 km, between metro cities, rest of India, and East India including Jammu & Kashmir. The third is the payment mode: COD orders carry a COD fee, charged as either a fixed amount or a percentage of the order value, whichever is higher, while prepaid orders don't. The fourth is the courier partner and service level you pick, such as surface or air express, since options on the same route are priced differently. Reverse and RTO shipments are priced separately again.
Getting an Estimate That Matches Your Final Bill
An estimate is only as accurate as the details you enter. Weigh the parcel after it has been packed, including the box, filler and labels, so you enter its gross weight rather than the product's listed weight, and measure the outer dimensions of the packed box at its widest points. If you ship a few standard box sizes, save them as weight templates in your settings so the same measurements are reused. Enter a realistic declared amount too, since that value is used for the liability limits that apply if something goes wrong. Where the weight recorded at booking differs from the weight the courier partner charges for, the difference appears in the Weight Discrepancy section of your dashboard, with the manifested weight, charged weight and cost difference shown so it can be reviewed.
When to Use a Courier Rate Calculator
A courier rate calculator is most useful at a few specific moments. New sellers use it to build delivery costs into product pricing, or to check whether a free shipping offer still leaves a margin. Growing businesses use it before selling into a new region, to get a delivery charges estimate and confirm serviceability for those pin codes. Existing sellers use it before each booking to compare options rather than relying on a single courier's rate card, such as DTDC courier charges. And for businesses shipping around 70 to 100 shipments per day or more, it's a useful starting point before requesting a bulk rate card with volume-based pricing.
